Police have eight people in custody following a series of massage parlour raids Wednesday.
OPP Const. Mark Kinney said police are not yet releasing the names of the accused or the charges but said those in custody are both customers and proprietors.
The OPP Major Support Team, Huronia West OPP, Barrie OPP and the Rural and Agricultural Crime Team executed four search warrants shortly before noon in Wasaga Beach at 934 River Rd., W., Booth Street on Hwy. 11 in Oro-Medonte Township, 11673 Hwy. 27 N. and 1179 Bayfield St. N. in Midhurst, both in Springwater Township.
Police call the businesses common bawdy houses - an old term for brothel.
Neighbours say shortly before noon, police charged the premises in Wasaga Beach.
They removed a woman in her mid-50s and two men, assumed to be customers, say witnesses.
Several officers wearing blue latex gloves spent about two hours bagging and tagging evidence at the Wasaga Beach raid and loading it into a transport truck before moving to the next scene.
Police removed couches, beds, a small refrigerator and garbage bags full of paraphernalia associated with "that type of business", said one undercover officer who could not be identified.
Two women who worked at a nearby business say they knew what was going on next door. The police, in the past, had asked them about using their business for surveillance but it never took place they said.
They believe the woman operated out of the small house, living there mid-week.
Neighbours say on Fridays, she was picked up by a man and taken to Toronto and she returned by bus at the beginning of the week.
