I know about these fish from scuba diving in the South Pacific. There are places in the coral reef known as "cleaning stations". These are places where large fish will go and have their scales cleaned of parasites, etc. by a group of much smaller fish. Normally large reef fish eat the little guys, but in these special locations, a kind of a truce exists. The little cleaning fish will even go inside the mouths of the larger fish without fear.
You can put your hand in the "cleaning station", and the little fish will come out and peck at the skin on your hand. Its truly amazing.
